Happy New Year!

... and Happy National Mentoring Month!

10 Things to Do in January from NationalMentoringMonth.org:
  1. Become a mentor in your community. (Use our Interactive Tutor/Mentor Program Locator if you're in Chicago.)
  2. Learn more about mentoring. (Read about the role of a volunteer at Cabrini Connections.)
  3. Partner with a mentoring organization. (Illinois' local partner is Dime Child Foundation. Contact Justin Wooley for NMM materials and opportunities.)
  4. Tell 5 friends about National Mentoring Month. (That's easy; just share this blog post with them.)
  5. Think about the mentors in your life and post a tribute to them online. (Cabrini Connections recorded mentor appreciation videos last year. Stay tuned for new ones!)
  6. Watch videos of celebrities such as Quincy Jones, Sting, Cal Ripken, Jr., talk about the mentors in their lives.
  7. Read the latest research and find resources on mentoring. (Check out our Tutor/Mentor Learning Network.)
  8. Go to YouTube on Thank Your Mentor Day (January 21st) and make the National Mentoring Month videos the most popular of the day!
  9. Serve your community on MLK Day of Service by deciding to become a mentor. (Make it a day on, not a day off.)
  10. Make a donation to a mentoring organization in your community. (How about Cabrini Connections?)
Please share the message of mentoring with your friends and family and consider getting involved as a volunteer and/or donor in 2010. You can make a difference! Thank you!

  1. Mike Trakan, of Cabrini Connections, Tutor/Mentor Connection posted some stats on his blog showing the costs of not investing in youth and the benefits of building a mentoring strategy. http://mappingforjustice.blogspot.com/2010/01/national-mentoring-month-do-yourself.html
